The Consulate General Office of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Malaysia has been established in Kuala Lumpur since year 2003.  The Honorary Consul General; Dato’ Syed Amin Aljeffri was officially appointed by the Ethiopian Government on April 8, 2003 to head the consulate office and perform diplomatic function on behalf of Ethiopian government in Malaysia and to assist Ethiopian Government in achieving its policy of forging greater people to people contact, enhancing trade and economic activities and extending consular assistance.

Adj. Prof. Dato’ Syed  Amin Aljeffri , aged 63  is a Malaysian. He is a well known corporate leader within the Malaysian and ASEAN circles . He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) Degree from University of Malaya , Malaysia. He is a Chartered Accountants by profession. He is a Fellow Member of the Certified Practicing Accountant Australia, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK and the Malaysian Institute of Taxation, a  Member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and a Member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants ,  Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore, and the  Financial Planning Association of  Malaysia.

 

Dato’ Syed Amin’s  previous work experiences since  1971 to 1981 covered his employment with Esso in Malaysia and  the United States of America. He also worked with Touche Ross Canada as a Chartered Accountant before he started his public accounting and consulting practices, AljeffriDean, Chartered Accountants in Malaysia.

 

Dato’ Syed sits on the Boards of several public listed companies in Malaysia. Dato’ Syed was formerly President of MIA . He is the President of the Malay Chamber of Commerce Kuala Lumpur and formerly also the Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council.  He is a Council Member of  the East Asia Business Council , the  Malaysia-China Business Council and  the Malaysia Singapore Business Council. He was formerly the Secretary General of the ASEAN Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Vice President of National Chamber of Commerce & Industry Malaysia and the Deputy President of Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia, Council Members of the Malaysian-British Business Council , a Panel Member of  the Entrepreneur Rehabilitation Fund and Committee Member of the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC). He is a member of the Board of the Islamic Science University  of Malaysia , Council Member  of Public Complain Bureau  and, Working Group Committee Member of Economic  Planning Unit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Since the date of establishment, Consulate General Office, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia generally performed certain representational, consular and promotional functions at our designated consular areas as assigned by the Embassy of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Beijing such as:-

  • Representing Ethiopia at any local official functions;
  • Renewal of passport by Ethiopian;
  • Application of visas by Malaysian and the large expatriate population in Malaysia and neighboring countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Brunei;
  • Authentication of document;
  • Assist Ethiopian nationals with legal or immigration problems and provide intermediary services such as application for letter of good conduct from Malaysian government;
  • Promote economic, political, cultural, educational, business and social ties between Ethiopia and the local communities and authorities in their designated area.
  • Arrange visit by Ethiopian Delegation.
